Authenticity Matters: Discord's Pride Month 2025

This year, we're reminded that Pride was founded as a protest in 1969, when people brave enough to live authentically in the face of dangerous adversity changed the lives of LGBTQIA+ people in the US and abroad forever. Their actions and advocacy continue to inspire us today, and while we've made tremendous progress over the last 56 years, work remains to ensure everyone receives the dignity, respect, and equality they deserve. In that spirit, this June, our PRIDE Employee Resource Group (ERG) came together to celebrate the meaningful act of being who you are, especially when it still takes courage to do so.

Here at Discord, we believe that your authentic self belongs here, and building belonging is at the heart of what we do.  As one of nine Employee Resource Groups at Discord open to all employees, we also believe that when team members bring their whole selves to work, we’re not just contributing our talents – we’re demonstrating that our collective unique perspectives create greater impact.

A Message from Our PRIDE ERG Leads

"Visibility and representation are important, and we want to reinforce that being your authentic self matters. As an ERG, we're committed to inclusion and belonging as lived experiences for every Discordian.

The PRIDE ERG serves as a supportive community for LGBTQIA+ employees and their allies. Pride Month is about celebrating who you are, whether you share that openly or keep it more private. Both approaches are valid. Both are powerful. Both belong here.”

How We're Celebrating

This month, we've amplified LGBTQIA+ voices in our community spaces and created meaningful moments for connection and celebration.

We hosted weekly Drag Race Lunch Watch Parties that brought our community together, a Pride-themed cocktail and mocktail happy hour, and partnered with our Black and African-American Movement (BAAM) ERG for a screening of "The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson." We participated in a mental health session with Point of Pride — a nonprofit organization providing resources and support to LGBTQIA+ individuals worldwide — and enjoyed a gaming hour with our VP of Core Technology.

We're also honored to spotlight an incredible LGBTQIA+ creator, Gianna Lee, who created our delightful Pride Month images (such as the one above). Her cozy café scene featuring Wumpus perfectly captures the warmth of belonging, bringing our theme to life with soft pastels, rainbow accents, and a welcoming atmosphere.

These creators and organizations remind us that LGBTQIA+ voices are thriving, creating, and building spaces where everyone can belong.

Beyond June

Pride Month may be 30 days, but our commitment extends year-round. We're building a culture where celebrating authenticity isn't just a June theme — it's a lived reality that makes Discord stronger and more welcoming for everyone.

Your authentic self matters. And here at Discord, you belong.

Happy Pride Month!
